What is a private social network ?

The first private social network appeared in 2016, but it is from 2019, under the reign of Covid 19 that this new media will take off in reality.  The concept? It’s simple. “Fans” subscribe to profiles that interest them. They can then benefit from exclusive content (photos and videos) updated at different intervals. So, why is there a revolution? We explain.

Why OnlyFans wanted to ban “adult content” from October 2021 ?

Although private social networks were not initially designed specifically for the pornographic sector, this is where OnlyFans first made its name. These types of content quickly became the most popular and visible one. In fact, OnlyFans became the standard for independent creators of adult content.

However, this positioning implies risks for the platform: hosting of illegal contents (for some countries), stigmatization of the pornography sector, necessary vigilance and active monitoring policy of the contents to avoid any problem (sexual exploitation of children, revenge pornography, etc…), data protection, daily Internet threats such as piracy, apprehension of the company’s partners regarding the sector, etc… Many brakes and elements to be taken into account therefore

New rules of publication ?

OnlyFans seems to be under pressure from external actors, especially banks and payment providers (Visa, Mastercard..). The latter have already announced that they would refuse to work with OnlyFans, and would continue to close the bank accounts of the profiles concerned by the publication of pornographic content.

Caught between a rock and a hard place, we can understand the procrastination of the platform’s founder this week. The founder finally announced that everything would remain as before. Until when?

The future will tell us
