A little shunned by content creators because of its lack of initiative to offer them formats to monetize their content, the Youtube platform has nevertheless been a hit in 2021. Return, through this article, on the biggest successes in France this year.

2021 has been a great year for Youtube in France. The platform now has more than 4500 channels with more than 100,000 subscribers (+20% compared to 2020), and 450 with more than one million subscribers (vs 360 in 2020). And the success does not stop in France. French content creators are also successful abroad. More than 50% of the viewing time comes from other countries. In short, it’s time to look back at the performances of 2021 and the nuggets that marked this year full of surprises. 

The top 10 most watched videos (excluding music)

There are some nice surprises in this ranking. The first video at the top of this ranking? The famous clip “Je me souviens” directed by Mcfly and Carlito in order to raise awareness about barrier gestures. This last one had been realized following a challenge launched by the president of the Republic Emmanuel Macron. On the podium of the ranking, we also find in a completely different register “Les PUBS vs LA VIE 5” by Cyprien, and “1 seconde avant la catastrophe…” by SQUEEZIE. What’s next? Youtube thus stepped on the toes of Tiktok and Instagram (with the Reels format). The result? The vast majority of content creators have adopted the format. This also allowed some of them to gain visibility and increase their community size. ARTHUR gained 339,000 subscribers over the year.
