Patreon launches on video format and intends to compete with Youtube

Youtube is increasingly criticized by content creators. Many problems question the monetization of their creations and therefore the viability of their activity on the platform. Patreon now intends to position itself as the new alternative. A risky challenge? We explain.

Hey you!

Formerly a platform largely favored by content creators, Youtube is increasingly abandoned by them. The reasons? Too many. Unpredictable changes in the algorithm, decrease in the visibility of content, removal of videos or clips demonetized for no apparent reason, infringement of copyrights … In short, there are so many elements that can largely repel. So, which alternative? Which other platform to choose? It seems that Patreon is doing well and hopes to make a place for itself on the subject. Passion Media explains.

Patreon is doing well

The application is not perfect, but it has the merit of seducing and building a loyal audience. Youtubers, artists, developers, gamers… More and more of them are investing in it. Some of them even choose to cut their income linked to Youtube (advertising mainly) and other platforms in order to focus on monetization via Patreon. The format? A system of contribution by subscription from fans. It’s also a way for content creators to create a stronger link with their community, and engagement. And precisely, beyond the subscription, the application sees new opportunities appear.

Patreon, towards a replacement for Youtube?

What if, beyond a subscription formula, Patreon simply replaced Youtube and other platforms? That’s the bet the company’s founder, Jack Conte, is making. Their will: to launch very soon a video hosting platform to allow content creators to offer exclusive content to their fans directly on the platform itself. He goes even further and explains that Patron’s goal is to create a solution that allows any creator to build a business around their work.

Patreon, the Swiss Army knife for content creators

Subscription was just one way to capture its audience. Patreon intends to go further. Media hosting, communication tools with fans, revenue monetization, etc. …. The challenge is huge. It is difficult to imagine today that the platform can compete with a behemoth like Youtube, but it has the merit of reshuffling the deck and offering new opportunities to content creators. And you, are you a Patreon user? Do you prefer Youtube or Patreon? Another platform?
