Meta will hire 10,000 people in Europe!

Meta intends to position itself as a leader in the metaverse market. And to take action, the firm has just announced the recruitment of more than 10,000 people in Europe. A plan that comes in addition to the 10,000 jobs already dedicated to the subject in the United States.

Hey you!

Meta is everywhere. In recent weeks, Mark Zuckerberg’s announcements have followed one another. Each one is more impressive than the other. First a name change from Facebook to Meta, then the founder’s speeches to show his will to become the leader of the metaverse… and now the recruitment of more than 10,000 people dedicated to the subject in Europe! So, what impact can we expect? What impact on Europe? Passion Media tells you everything.

A vast recruitment plan in Europe

Meta (formerly Facebook) has announced a 5-year recruitment plan, with more than 10,000 jobs in Europe. The objective? Prepare its next technological challenge: the metaverse. We talked about it at length here, it is the new hobby of Mark Zuckerberg. In concrete terms, it is the creation of a new world where the border between real and virtual will be less and less present. To prepare this technology, which is presented as revolutionary, a variety of highly qualified profiles will be sought (engineers, developers, researchers, product managers, etc.). In Europe, these recruitments will take place mainly in France, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland.

Already 10,000 engineers in the United States

This recruitment plan is a continuation of a strategy already launched in the United States. More than 10,000 engineers are currently working on the subject. So, how will exchanges between the two continents be managed? How will the subjects be distributed? This is the big challenge at the moment. Things are being organized internally and will be explained very soon.

A strong signal for the attractiveness of Europe

This announcement once again shows the essential place that Europe is taking in the race for new technologies. The continent is already known for its pool of skilled labor, for its famous brains. This announcement comes as a consecration and arrives moreover in the line of a deployment already successfully operated by Facebook in 2015. The company had launched Fair, the laboratory dedicated to research in artificial intelligence. Since then, Fair has had the opportunity to forge partnerships with more than 17 French universities and 10 research centers. Logically, these new recruitments should therefore also be accompanied by partnerships and great opportunities for future engineers.

Imminent regulation to regulate tech giants

The change of name of the company has not erased the many scandals and issues related to its activities and its limits. And Europe is currently working on new regulations. The code names of these projects? The Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act. Concretely, the objective of these laws will be to force the tech giants to be more transparent. It will also be a question of changing the rules of competition law in order to better regulate the market. So, are these waves of recruitment made to come and soften the exchanges, improve the image of the firm and hope for a more lenient regulation? This is probably one of the elements. One thing is sure, the European Commission has declared that it is sensitive to these efforts but that it will not affect the current files.
